Babangida, Gowon, Jonathan send message to Tinubu

(Globeraccess)= Former Nigerian leaders, General Yakubu Gowon, General Ibrahim Babangida, and Goodluck Jonathan, have advised the new President,  Bola Tinubu , to become president for all Nigerians. Speaking on Arise Television on Sunday, the three former leaders in separate interviews, advised the former Governor of Lagos State to carry all regions of the country along. The former leaders also urged Nigerians to be patient with the incoming administration as it settles to lead the country for the next four years. Babangida Speaks Babangida said Tinubu needs all the skills to be able to unite the country, stressing that Nigeria has some of the best brains that he can tap from to revamp every sector, including the military. The former military Head of State also urged Tinubu to reorganize the civil service and called for a reform of the electoral process. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to stop the House of Representatives from procuring and taking delivery of N57.6bn 360 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for its members, pending the hearing and determination of the applications for injunction filed by the organization.”

(Globeraccess) SERAP’s applications for interim and interlocutory injunction followed reports that the lawmakers are set to procure and take delivery of N57.6 billion SUVs. According to reports, each of the SUVs would cost taxpayers at least N160 million. In the applications filed last week, SERAP is seeking “an order of interim injunction restraining the National Assembly from procuring, taking delivery and distributing the SUVs to their members, pending the hearing and  determination of the motion on notice for an order of interlocutory injunction filed simultaneously in this suit .” SERAP is also seeking “such further order(s) that the Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstance of this suit.” It would be recalled that SERAP in August filed the suit number FHC/L/CS/1606/2023 before the Federal High Court challenging “the legality of the spending of billions of naira by the National Assembly to purchase exotic and bulletproof cars for members and principal o

Kaduna Govt. seals Zaria academy for allegedly beating student to death

The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) has sealed Al-azhar academy in Zaria over alleged beating of a student to death. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a JSS 3 student Marwan Sambo, 19,  was reported to have died from severe beating and corporal punishment by some teachers over absenteeism. In a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Kaduna,  Dr Usman Abubakar, the Director General (DG) of the KSSQAA, said the state’s Ministry of Education, representing the State government, with the school, had launched a fact-finding mission. He said their visit to Zaria was to assemble the sequence of events that transpired from the Al-Azhar Academy, where the incident happened, to the victim’s home, to offer condolences and engage with bereaved family and some school mates of the victim. Abubakar added that the KSSQAA team visited the Divisional Police Headquarters, Zaria City, where the school principal and the vice-principal were being detained.

However, to ensure his survival and improve his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated. The family is now reaching out to fellow Nigerians for support during this difficult time. Over  the past 4 months, the Naira has depreciated by more than 50 per cent above the official and parallel market segments after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) collapsed all FX windows into the investors and exporters’ window, now called the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM). The move according to the CBN was part of government’s    effort to improve liquidity and stability in the market and attract foreign investors into the Nigerian economy. The President Bola Tinubu-led government has began the payment of N35,000 wage award to federal civil servants for the month of September. Some jubilant workers confirmed that they started receiving credit alerts on Tuesday. One of them confirmed receiving payment for September only and not for two months as promised by the federal government. “Yes I did receive it. I saw the alert about 15 minutes ago. I think it is for September because the alert indicated September,” the source said.
